An email arrived on Friday from an address Nora did not recognize, with no name attached and no greeting. The message was short: "You are looking at the wrong bridge. Ask who owns Riverside Holdings, and ask why the deputy mayor's brother-in-law works there."
Nora read it three times before she believed it was real. She had assumed, without quite admitting it to herself, that Marcus's only sin was protecting a program for children. A private company owned by a relative was a different kind of story altogether, one that suggested the bridge money had not gone to charity at all.
