A Letter to Investors

Английский · уровень C1 · 131 слов

Dear partners, our fund returned nine percent this year, and I would love to tell you it was skill. Some of it was. The rest was the oldest force in finance: patience, compounding quietly while nobody watched. We sold almost nothing. Our best decision was made four years ago and needed only to be left alone; our worst was a clever trade I understood less well than I believed. The lesson is not new, but it is expensive to relearn: activity is not the same as progress, and a portfolio, like a bar of soap, gets smaller every time you handle it. We enter the new year fully invested, mildly worried, and entirely unhurried — which, in this business, is as close to comfortable as one should ever feel. — R.
